I’ve just posted the essay I wrote to accompany Aki Takahashi’s beautiful recording of Morton Feldman’s For Bunita Marcus. This will be released shortly (I hope) by Mode Records (Mode 314) as the 13th issue in their Feldman Edition. It is simultaneously being released in Japan on the Camerata label. You’ll find my essay under the “Writings” tab on the site.
When I interviewed Bunita Marcus last year she said that Morton Feldman had appropriated some of her ideas in this work, specifically, but also in others. She interpreted this unacknowledged theft of her intellectual property as a crude form of flirtation. He had become infatuated with her and (paraphrasing her words) began to exhibit unwanted romantic overtures which developed into almost stalking behavior. She said it was only after his death that she felt safe again.
Were you aware of this?
He certaonly stole my music and intellectial property but not for the reasons stayed here by Mr Leone. Nor are Leone’s other representations of me accurate either.
